Candidate Filing

Welcome to the Montana Secretary of State's Candidate Filing service.

This service allows you to file your candidacy as a member of a qualified political party, as a minor political party*, as a candidate independent of party affiliation*, or as a candidate for a non-partisan office; and view a current list of individuals who have filed for office with the Secretary of State.

Audio: All candidates who would like to confirm the pronunciation of their name – please contact the Secretary of State's office by April 1st, 2022 at soselections@mt.gov or 406-444-9608. SOS is responsible to prepare audio files of all candidate's names which will be used for voting equipment made available to disabled voters. If you do not contact SOS by April 1st, the basic phonetic pronunciation of your name will be used.

No elections are currently available for filing.

*Please Note: Independent Candidates and Minor Party Candidates must file verified petition signatures. An on-line filing for any candidate required to submit petition signatures before the candidate filing deadline will appear in the status of "Pending", until such time as the required number of verified signatures submitted to county election officials are filed with the Secretary of State.

Please view our election calendar for more information.
