Important Note The department releases driving records only to people who qualify under Montana's "Driver Privacy Protection Act" (DPPA). To qualify, you must state the specific use listed in the DPPA that entitles you to the information.

The resale or further disclosure of information contained in the record is subject to strict regulation under state and federal law. You must agree to comply with those laws. (MCA §§ 61-11-501 through 516).
 
 
2.  For use by a business, in the normal course of business, to verify, update or correct the accuracy of personal information submitted to the business by the individual whose driving record is sought, for the purposes of preventing fraud via pursuit of legal remedies or debt recovery against the individual.
3.  To obtain my own driving record.
4.  To obtain another person's driving record. That person whose driving record I am requesting has given me express consent to obtain his or her driving record.  I can provide his or her express consent to release of driving record, if necessary.
5.  For use as part of a civil, criminal, administrative, or arbitral proceeding in any court or government agency or before any self-regulatory body, including the service of process, an investigation in anticipation of litigation, the execution or enforcement of judgments and orders, or pursuant to an order of any court.
6.  For use by an insurer, insurance support organization or a self-insured entity in connection with the investigation of claims, antifraud activities, ratemaking or underwriting.
7.  For use by a licensed private investigator or security service for any purpose authorized under Montana law.
8.  For use by an employer or its agent to verify information related to a holder of a commercial driver license required under federal or state law.
9.  For use in providing notice to the owners of towed, abandoned, or impounded vehicles.
10.  For use by a parent of a child under 18 years of age.
