A new construction project is beginning in the Flathead Valley this summer. The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) welcomes both the media and general public to attend an open house discussing plans and traffic control details for the construction of the new Dern Road and Springcreek Road Intersection on US Highway 2.
There will be two Dern and Springcreek open houses. One will be hosted virtually on Wednesday, May 19, via Zoom; at 12 p.m. (noon). If you are interested in attending virtually, please register at
Registration is required to attend.
The second will be held in person on Thursday, May 20 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn in Kalispell. (1140 U.S. Hwy 2 W, Kalispell, MT 59901)
During the virtual open house, the Dern and Springcreek project team will be present to discuss project plans and potential construction impacts. In addition, both open houses will focus on answering attendee questions and gathering feedback.
For those unfamiliar with the project, to provide the safest design, MDT will replace the current intersection configuration with a roundabout. In addition, crews will work to flatten the slope bordering US Highway 2 on both sides of the intersection to increase visibility for drivers.
Initial construction will begin adjacent to the roadway near the northwest corner of the current Dern and Springcreek intersection. Updates will be given each week as work progresses.
If you have questions or cannot attend the open house feel free to contact me at email@example.com or call the project hotline at (406) 207-4484 during business hours. You can also sign up for text updates by texting 41411 to DERNSPRING.
