The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is hosting an open house public meeting on the second phase of a project to improve 8.6 miles of roadway and replace the Box Elder Creek and the North Fork Box Elder bridges on Montana Highway 13 (MT-13) on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Roosevelt County.

The open house will be held in Wolf Point on Wednesday, April 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room 119/120 of the Fort Peck Community College (301 Benton Street). Project team members will be available during the open house to discuss the project.

The project begins on MT-13 at the intersection of Secondary Highway 250 near reference post 16 and extends north for 8.6 miles, ending near at the intersection of County Road 2040 near reference post 25.

The project is divided into two phases:

The first phase is the replacement of the Box Elder Creek Bridge. The design stage is complete and construction is planned for 2019.

The second phase of the project is currently in the design stage and proposes widening the roadway from 24 feet to 28 feet, including 2-foot shoulders. The road will also be shifted to flatten the tight horizontal curves and the abrupt vertical curves. The North Fork of Box Elder Creek Bridge, located near reference post 22, will be replaced with a large culvert.

The project will require right-of-way acquisition and utility relocations. The purpose of the project is to bring the road to current design standards and improve safety.

The meeting is open to the public and attendance is encouraged. MDT will make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities who wish to participate in this public meeting. If you require an accommodation, contact Jan Nesset at (406) 556-4707 to advise us of the nature of the needed accommodation.
