The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is conducting an open house meeting for a proposal to widen one mile of U.S. Highway 93 (US-93) west of Whitefish in Flathead County.

The project is located on US-93 from reference post 133 to reference post 134, including the two curves between Twin Bridges Road and Beaver Lake Road.

The open house will be held in Whitefish on Wednesday, March 20, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Whitefish Community Center (121 East 2nd St.). The public is invited to visit project displays, ask questions and provide comments on the project. Project team members will be available during the open house to discuss the project.

Proposed work includes widening the roadway to include 4-foot shoulders, flattening side slopes, and guardrail. The purpose of the project is to increase safety by addressing run-off-the-road crashes.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2022 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. Minor utility relocation and acquisition of new right-of-way are anticipated.

Community participation is an important part of the process, and the public is encouraged to attend. MDT attempts to provide accommodations for any known disability that may interfere with a person’s participation in any department service, program or activity.
