The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is conducting an open house meeting on a proposal to construct Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk corners and complete sidewalk repair in a corridor along both sides of Main Street (Secondary Highway 275) in the City of Deer Lodge business district. The open house will be held in Deer Lodge from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Deer Lodge Community Center (416 Cottonwood Avenue). The public is invited to visit project displays, ask questions and provide comments on the project. Project team members will be available during the open house to discuss the project. Proposed work includes construction of ADA sidewalk corners at intersections along Main Street and repair of 25 percent of the sidewalks along the Main Street corridor. The purpose of the project is to improve sidewalks for all pedestrians. The project begins at the intersection of Texas Avenue and Main Street at reference post 1.78 and extends north along Main Street for about 0.7 miles, ending near the intersection of California Avenue and Main Street at reference post 1.11. Construction is tentatively planned for 2020 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. Minor utility relocation and no new right-of-way are anticipated. Community participation is an important part of the process, and the public is encouraged to attend.
