Daniel Clark, Director of the Local Government Center of Montana State University, will conduct this full day trainning.  This training is designed for librarians and board members at libraries that receive funding or other support from their local government: tribal, county, or city.  The session begins with an overview of the legislative issues that define how libraries and local government entities interact.  Those legislative issues are found in the Montana Code Annotated, the Administrative Rules of Montana, and in Attorney General opinions that further clarify the application of these laws and rules.  To a lesser degree, federal law also impacts the relationships of libraries to their municipality or county.  Participants will walk away with a very clear understanding of what practices and policies they need to follow after this morning session.

After lunch (on your own), the training continues by looking at the less clearly defined issues of building and maintaining a positive relationship with your local government officials: both staff and elected officials.

There is no charge to attend.

Registration opens in February, 2018. Contact Joann Flick for more information: jflick@mt.gov
