This webinar is an introduction to the concept of arranging books by genre in the library rather than by Dewey of Library of Congress catalog number. The reason to consider genrefication: it might make it easier for your patrons to navigate the library and it could improve circulation. But, while there is no one-right-way to reorganize your books by genre, your colleagues across Montana have already been through the process and you can lean on them for advice. This webinar features a panel of librarians who have genre-based stacks in their library and they are eager to share the possibilities and pitfalls of their experiences with you: Public Library Director from Ronan: Michelle Fenger and school librarians Dana Carmichael from Whitefish and Ann Gentry from Frenchtown will lead our panel. Katy Rende from the Montana Shared Catalog will detail how rearranging your books impacts your catalog record, using the MSC as an example.

Plan to attend if you have never heard of arranging your books by genre, if you are thinking about it, or if you have concerns.

Learning outcomes for this webinar:
-identify some advantages and pitfalls of organizing books by genre
-compare different applications of this trend in different libraries
-illustrate how to update your catalog record using the Montana Shared Catalog as an example
