How Do I

Now that I have an ePass account, how do I create a Business Tax Express account?

  1. Select the link ‘New to business tax express?’.
  2. Complete the ‘Transmitter Contact Information’.
  3. Complete the ‘Business Information’.
  4. Complete the ‘Banking Information’.
  5. Complete ‘Tax Payment Type’. If you are unsure which filing frequency to select, log into your TransAction Portal account. Filing frequency is listed on your account home page.
  6. Select ‘Password/Authorization Code Information’. This case-sensitive information must be 5-8 characters long and must contain both letters and numbers.
  7. Submit your account request.
  8. The Department of Revenue will approve your registration within 24 business hours. You will receive an email from the Department notifying you whether your application has been approved or if further information is required to process your registration.

Now that I have a Business Tax Express account, how do I make a payment?

  1. On your ePass account home page, scroll down to the ‘Your Services’ section.
  2. Select ‘Business Tax Express’.
  3. From the menu presented, select the type of payment that you would like to make. You have the option of a Withholding Tax Payment or a Corporation License Tax Payment.
  4. Complete the fields provided to you. If you are making a withholding tax payment, the fields you need to complete are as follows:
    • Period End Date – this is the period for which you are making your payment.
    • Amount Paid – this is the amount that you are paying.
    • Payment Date – this represents the date that you want your payment to be taken from your account.
    If you are making a Corporate License Tax payment, the fields you need to complete are as follows:
    • Payment Type – the options given are:
      • Current year corporation tax
      • Estimated tax
      • Tentative tax
      • Amended tax payment
    • Year Ending Date – what year end date are you making this payment for
    • Amount Paid – this is the amount that you are paying.
    • Payment Date – this represents the date that you want your payment to be taken from your account.
  5. Once you have entered your information, select ‘continue’. You will be presented with a remittance screen where you can verify that all payment information is correct.
  6. Choose how you would like to make your payment:
    • Electronic Funds Transfer – this will use the bank account information used in registering your Business Tax Express account.
    • Credit Card – selecting credit card will provide you with the fields needed to enter your credit card information.
  7. Select ‘submit payment’. You will receive a confirmation screen to print as your receipt.

How do I view my payment history?

On your main Business Tax Express screen, you have the option to ‘View Payment History’. Select this option and select ‘continue’. You will be taken to a list of all payments that you have made through Business Tax Express.

Annual reconciliations can be filed electronically using the Montana Department of Revenue TransAction Portal application.

How do I add another business to my account?

  1. From your main Business Tax Express screen, select the ‘Add a Business to my Account’ option and select ‘continue’. Your business information will be shown in the ‘Transmitter Contact Information’ portion of this screen.
  2. Complete the Business Information for the business that you are adding to your account.
  3. Complete the Banking Information that the business you are adding will use to make their payments.
  4. Complete the Tax Payment Type information for the business that you are adding.
  5. Submit your account request.
  6. The Department of Revenue will approve your registration within 24 business hours. You will receive an email from the Department notifying you whether your application has been approved or if further information is required to process your registration.

How do I change my transmitter password/authorization code?

  1. Select the ‘Change Transmitter Password / Authorization Code’ option on your Business Tax Express home page.
  2. Enter the current password / authorization code in the first field provided.
  3. Enter the new password / authorization code in the second and third fields provided.
  4. You can use this field to provide a hint for yourself in the event you forget your password.
  5. Select ‘continue’.

How do I add or edit my bank account information?

  1. Select the ‘Add/Edit Bank Account’ option on your Business Tax Express home page and select ‘continue’.
  2. Select the ‘Edit’ option next to the account you would like to edit or select the ‘Add Account’ option to add bank information for an additional bank account.
  3. If you chose to ‘Edit’ your bank account, you will be given a screen with the information for that bank account and will be able to make the necessary changes to these fields.
  4. If you chose to ‘Add’ an account, you will be given a screen to complete your new bank account information.
