Sperry Chalet: Glacier National Park, Montana (1914-2017)
By Bret Bouda. Hardcover, 120 pages.
Many people have written about Sperry Chalet and taken hundreds of photographs of it. This new hardcover photo book will honor the memories of the Sperry Chalet and its surroundings.
On August 31, 2017 The Sprague Fire grew explosively through Glacier's extremely hot and dry lodgepole and tamarack forest. Sadly, the flames gutted the Sperry Chalet, one of the last remaining hopes of preserving the memory of the chalets' era in Glacier National Park.
The National Park Service in partnership with the Glacier National Park Conservancy will attempt to rebuild it to return the Sperry chalet experience.
An initial structural assessment of the Sperry Chalet Dormitory and Dining Hall was performed in September of 2017 followed with an emergency stabilization of the Dormitory's four remaining walls and two chimneys in October of 2017.
As of the of printing this book, the park plans to complete the Sperry Chalet project in 2020.
