Lavishly illustrated wtih pen and ink sketches of powwow scenes and photographs of powwows in the 1940's, the main narrative is based on interviews Arlee conducted with Salish Elders in teh 1970's. Excerpts of the interviews - and interviews with modern powwow participants - round out the volume.
