A comprehensive history of the dams once owned by the Montana Power Company, and now owned and operated by NorthWestern Energy, including the history of dams in Montana, and of the specific dams themselves.

Written by Butch Larcombe, this book combines many previously unpublished photographs from the Northwestern Energy collection with a timeline history of the building of the dams, including Black Eagle, Madison, Hauser, Rainbow, Ryan, Thompson Falls, Hebgen, Holter, Mystic Lake, Morony, Cochrane and others.

Many of these dams were built to provide electricity to major customers such as the Anaconda Company, the Milwaukee Road, other mines, cities and electric streetcar systems.  This book is a treasure trove of facts and photos about the hydroelectric history of Montana.
