E. S. Paxson: Frontier Artist
By William Edgar Paxson, Jr. Hardcover, 126 pages, color & b&w illus.
Edgar Samuel Paxson (1852-1919) was not only an artist but also a frontiersman, scout and soldier. Published by Paxson's great-grandson in 1984, this is the only major biography on Paxson and his work, which includes his sketches, paintings, and murals in the Missoula County courthouse and the Montana State Capitol. The book also details his friendships with Charlie Russell, Buffalo Bill Cody and Granville Stuart. Items and photos from his personal scrapbooks and journals illustrate Paxson's colorful life.
